A yellow, high rise block of flats set against a stylised bright blue sky

This original jukebox musical weaves together many different stories; from breakups to forbidden love, all set in an eight story block of flats. We follow Cherry as she climbs up the many stairs to her apartment, meeting the various residents on each floor, this ties the varying stories together well. From the very start of the musical we learn the lift is broken which quickly becomes a problem, especially for the elderly neighbours who live up on the 7th floor. This sparks the idea of a community carry, each member of the community drops what they are doing to help their neighbours, this is a really wholesome moment and gives the show a warm, uplifting tone.

Songs by Paul Heaton and The Beautiful South, although not original, compliment the story, fitting in well with the narrative. In a jukebox musical there is always the risk of developing a convoluted plot in order to accommodate the songs chosen, however, the storyline is carefully crafted so that each song in this musical is well placed, helping to progress the story and deepen the characters. The actor playing Jacquie deserves a mention, her hopeful portrayal and expressive voice engaged the audience, creating sympathy for the character. The comical difference in the relationship between Harry and Mable; from newly in love to old and nagging, is portrayed brilliantly by the actors and has the audience laughing out loud. Overall, this feel-good show leaves the audience smiling.

Woohoo moment: The lift between Cherry and Reg, it captures the growing connection between the two characters and gives the audience a real ‘wow’ moment.
